As an official partner of NYC Open Data Week, Datavized Technologies is hosting a half-day, hands-on workshop on how to use NYC Open Data with Datavized easy to use software tools, Geometric and TwoTone. Participants will learn how to use Geometric to turn NYC Open Data into fully immersive 3D experiences that work on web browsers and in virtual reality and also TwoTone, a free and open-source web app that turns data into music, imagined and developed by Datavized Technologies with the support of Google News Initiative (launching March 5, 2019).
Easily build and share immersive 3D virtual reality experiences in minutes without coding using Geometric. Participants will use the Geometric dashboard tool and learn the fundamentals of immersive data visualization, how to prepare and clean location data sets, import and map geospatial data to a 3D globe for a 360° view of trends and insights, and customize a 3D project for presentation on the web and in virtual reality and mixed reality headsets.
Datavized, with the support of Google News Initiative, has developed TwoTone, a new free and open-source web-based tool for turning data into music. Learn how to import an Excel or CSV data set and sonify the data, as a way to understand the data by hearing, or simply as a way to use data to make music for creative projects. Participants will learn how to use both data tools with NYC Open Data and create and share their projects online. Datavized will show examples of projects made with the tools using data from the NYC Open Data portal and several other open data sites, including examples from City data partners. Everyone will have access to the free tools and tutorials online. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop, tablet, and/or smartphone in order to fully participate.
Space is limited. Register early to reserve your seat. This event is free and open to the public. Register today via Eventbrite.

Datavized, with the support of Google News Initiative, has developed TwoTone – a free and open-source web-based tool for turning data into music. Turning data into sound has advantages. Just like in the cinema, sound adds another layer to understanding. It also has potential uses for people who are visually impaired. TwoTone is a fun and intuitive way to make your own compositions, without any prior musical or technical knowledge. In this Workshop participants will learn how to use the tool, sonify NYC Open Data, and share their projects online. Select projects will be featured on the TwoTone website (launching March 5, 2019).
